Match number: 1532The 'A' team staged a dramatic fightback to gain their first point of the season at the University. With six changes from the previous (most out of necessity rather than choice) it was almost like starting again for Weysiders. And it was a poor start as after only five minutes the University took the lead from a penalty mysteriously given by the young referee.
From that point Weysiders had the better of the first half, playing some lovely football, especially down the left, with Steve Brooks threading some excellent passes for Kevin Barrow and Tim Buzaglo. The University keeper was in sparkling form to deny Weysiders an equaliser, but could not prevent the irrepressible Tim Buzaglo slotting home a Kevin Barrow pass.
Things got considerably worse for the visitors when Chris Rayner was sent off after pulling back an attacker shortly before half-time, and the University scored from the deflected free-kick to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
It was always going to be a tough second half, but Weysiders battled well, despite Will Daniels going off with post 21st birthday party blues and Jim McDermott having a (mysteriously awarded) penalty saved, then going off with an ankle injury.
But with ten minutes left Andy Horner slotted home a penalty after Tim Buzaglo had been tripped (not even a booking for the perpetrator), and the 'A' team were left to hold out to gain a hard-earned point.
