Match number: 2800After starting 2022 very strongly, Weysiders' unbeaten run came to an end this weekend against a very strong Upper Hale team. With Upper Hale starting the day in second place, Weysiders Reserves knew they’d be in for a tough match and accepted it would be a different game to two weeks ago, which ended in a 2-0 win. Weysiders Reserves started with a 4-1-4-1 formation, looking to not get overrun in midfield and be able to push out from the back. Although they started compact and defended well, goalkeeper Ash Bradbury had to pull off some good early saves. The home side started to push forward more and the breakthrough came on the 30-minute mark, the lead doubling only two minutes later after a fortunate deflection landed at the feet of the Upper Hale striker. Weysiders Reserves tried their best to get their heads back into the game but were unable to stop a third goal going in after 42 minutes. When the half-time whistle went, the three quick goals from Upper Hale in the last 15 minutes of the half showed the difference in strength of the Upper Hale team compared to the earlier reverse fixture. The second half started with Upper Hale continuing their press, playing good football, moving the ball from side to side. It became much the same as the first half with Upper Hale scoring on 50, 65 and 86 minutes, with the final whistle blowing on a 6-0 victory for the home side. Weysiders Reserves need to muster some resilience to get back to winning ways very quickly. MOTM: Jack Porter Words by Harry Barlow |
