30.06.13: Reserves win Sportsmanship Trophy

As is traditional for Weysiders, last season's Reserve team won the Division 4 South Sportsmanship Trophy.

The First Team were runners up in their division.

26.06.13: Carry on summer training

Summer training continues this Thursday at Shalford Park. Starting at 7pm, it's a useful workout to keep us ticking over during the summer.

21.05.13: Informal summer training

We are going to put on some light and informal training sessions during the summer to keep some of us "ticking over" and also possibly to introduce new players to the club.

The first session will take place at Shalford Park on Thursday 30 May at 7pm. All are welcome.

We will hope to run regular sessions up until the compulsory pre-season training starts in early July.

17.05.13: Club to change name to Weysiders Football Club

It was agreed at the Club AGM on 16 May that the Club would change its name to Weysiders Football Club with immediate effect.

The Club started life as Weysiders FC in 1973, and merged with Guildford City Social Club in 1986 to become Guildford City Weysiders FC. Now, with no connection with the Social Club any longer, the decision has been taken to revert to the Club's original name.

15.04.13: End of Season Function and 40th Anniversary Celebration: 25 May 2013

All current and ex-players and members are invited to the Guildford City Weysiders End of Season Function to be held on Saturday 25 May 2013.
The venue is the Bench Bar at the Surrey Sports Park, Richard Meyjes Rd, Guildford, Surrey GU2 7AD. Start time is around 7.30pm. Dress is smart casual.

The evening will consist of a Bar, a Buffet, 2012-13 Awards, the Champions League Final on the Big Screen ... and a chance to renew old acquaintances.

Charge will be £10 per person. Payment for ex members of the Club can be made on the night. Current members should pay Nick Burt beforehand.

03.03.13: A happy tale - thanks to Weysiders

I am delighted to report the happy resolution of a potentially sad tale.

Yesterday early evening I took a phone call from a lady who had lost an expensive and sentimental bracelet at Shalford Park yesterday lunchtime. She was very upset but wondered whether any of our Reserve team might have found it. I emailed them to ask and yes, they had found it! I called the lady this morning and she was overcome with joy at the good news. We reunited her with her bracelet to her absolute delight this afternoon.

Our First Team game against Guildford United on 16 February has been called off as so many of our players are unavailable.

06.02.13: Event in May to mark the Club's 40th anniversary

This year is the 40th anniversary of the Club, and we are planning to hold an End of Season Function on Friday 24th May to celebrate this.

We will be presenting this season's awards and would be delighted if as many current and ex players as possible could join us for this event. Stay tuned to the website for more details, but mark the date in your diary.

01.02.13: Shalford B have pulled out of the League

Shalford B have dropped out of Division Four South of the Guildford & Woking Alliance League - the division in which our reserves play. Their record has been expunged. Unfortunately, as we had an 11-1 win against them, the loss of those points and that goal difference has - temporarily, at least - knocked us down to seventh place - but we're only three points off third!

26.10.12: Every single team for every single match...

I am undertaking a huge task of entering every single team for every single match the club has ever played (to date, that's 2,407 matches) since September 1974.

I have entered 704 so far, taking us to mid 1989-90 season! There's a long way to go, and I reckon I'll finish by about mid-April 2013.

You can see this information by clicking the team on the left (e.g. 1st Team), then choosing Archives, then the season you want, then either Results or Appearances & Goalscorers. From Results you can pick a match to see our team.

You can also click individual players to see their playing records, and you can click opposition to see our record against them.

11.09.12: New sock and tape law
In their infinite wisdom the football authorities have brought in a new law that will solve most of football's ills. It goes like this:
There is a new law amendment regarding the colour of tape on players socks. The colour of tape has to match the colour of the sock that it is applied to (e.g. blue tape on the blue bits and white tape on the white bits). If this does not happen, then the tape must be removed before the player is allowed to play.
In a League where many Clubs haven't even got fully matching kit, this is a wonderfully helpful new law. You have been warned.
Tape manufacturers Stick & Rip-off were too gleeful to comment.

07.09.12: Kevin Barrow takes the job of First Team Manager
Kevin Barrow has accepted the job of First Team manager at Guildford City Weysiders.
Kevin will take over all First Team management duties immediately. We wish him good luck.

07.09.12: Dom De Piano steps down as First Team Manager
Dom De Piano has decided to step down from managing the First Team.
Everyone connected with the Club would like to thank him for his efforts at managing the A team and then the First Team in the past few years.
Dom will stay with the Club as a player.

10.08.12: Social: Beer Festival at GLive on 8 September
There is a beer festival at Glive in Guildford from 6.30pm to 11pm.

Tickets are £12 (or we can get them at £10 each if we book 10 or more places).

If you're a fan of beer (who isn't?) and oompah bands (who isn't?) it's a can't miss event.

For those of you unfamiliar with the joys of a beer festival, imagine supping a fine pint of cloudy ale and stomping your feet to some serious beats.

Plan is to play for or watch the Reserves at home during the day then hit the Stoke for pizza and a bit of beer garden action before heading up to GLive for 6.30.

Kev Barrow need to book tickets in advance for this one so please let him know if you can make it.

06.07.12: Ex-Weysider Rob Hunter dies
I am very sad to report that ex-Weysider Rob Hunter died from an inoperable brain tumour earlier this week.

Rob played 72 games as full-back and scored 14 goals in the early years of the club. His impressive scoring record from the back came by virtue of his excellent penalty-taking technique. We'll remember him fondly.

Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
