Match number: 1540After last week's win, when Mick Harper was in charge, Andy White returned and immediately the B team went back into bad habits. Perhaps Mick should be in charge every week for few of the players showed the determination and passing that they will need to display if the team is to have a winning season. Admittedly there were 5 enforced changes, including the loss of Mick himself, but those taking the field were as good on paper - the only trouble being they were playing on a hard, bumpy grass pitch!!
The conditions, whilst by no means any excuse, did contribute to the home side being gifted a 2 goal lead in the first 5 minutes with some sloppy play at the back. Having said that the back 5 played well overall and their individual efforts did not deserve the final score. But the team will win or lose on the efforts of the whole team and the effort was mainly lacking. This may have been caused by the early concession of the 2 goals and the knowledge they were playing a young, fit and determined side brimming with confidence after winning their first 4 games and being joint top. Whatever the reason the team needs to develop more pride and confidence in themselves and their teamates to make the best of the undoubted abilities they have as individuals.
Even with the score at 3-0 at half time they could have fought their way back into the game but another goal just after half time took any fight away until Paul Carter came on. His determination showed to the others what could be done even against good opposition and led to the only goal for the B’s, scored by Craig Morgan after a mistake by the home keeper.
The B’s will have a mid-table season but how high up the table will be determined how they do against the better sides. They must find the confidence to fight for points against the good teams even if the game does not start as well as we would all wish.
